Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts in Gnome

I'm wondering if there is a way to assign unused keys on my keyboard to do specific commands such as open a program. I have used ACME I think it is called to control multimedia and such. But is there a way to assign that button between the Ctrl and Alt keys to open a terminal? Under windows it will open the start menu I believe. Thanks in advance.
