Hello,
I have a "stupid" problem:
I'm running Sarge with KDE.
KDE when starts loads the Arts daemon which blocks many programs like xmms.
What I have to do all the times is "killall artsd".
I went into my rc2.d directory but I did not find anything related to the Arts daemon.
Does anybody know where and when it is loaded?
KDE loads the artsd itself, so your best bet is turning the KDE soundsystem off from the kde control panel. That will prevent the artsd from starting up in the first place, unless you use some application that starts it up (almost any kde soundrelated program)
