Apache + RH 8

Hi there,
I just installed Httpd-2.0.43 on my RH 8 machine. When I try to start the server from the console by saying : /etc/httpd/bin/apachectl start
it gives me the following output:

httpd: module "mod_perl.c" is not compatible with this version of Apache (found 20020628, need 20020903).

Please help!

you can upgrade it or remove the loadmodule lines for it

I looked into my httpd.conf file, I didnt find any such module there. Do I have to remove it from any place.

Anyways from where do I upgrade mod_perl.c?

Thanks mate!

http://perl.apache.org/

In RH 8 your Perl stuff (pertaining to apache) is in /etc/httpd/conf.d/perl.conf

you can comment it out there (if you don't need perl):

#LoadModule perl_module modules/mod_perl.so

As always, make sure you're root when starting apache. When I try it as a user it throws an SSL error (permissions problem) but not when root...something to keep in mind b4 installing mod_perl

#####
Sorry, this may not apply if you didn't install off of the RH disks...which I gather you didn't

Oh well I reverted back to installing httpd-2.0.40. Everything went smoothly, when i try to start the server, it gives me the following message:

Quote:
httpd: bad group name nogroup
I tried setting the group name to something else. Still no luck!

Anyone?

open up /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and change the lines that say

User nobody
Group #-1

to

User nobody
Group nobody
