Any alternatives to targetcli for Linux SCSI targets ?
Are there any alternatives to targetcli?
I'm building my own fibre channel SAN.
I plan to use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server for the SAN OS. I have QLogic HBA's.
I came across targetcli as the interface for creating LUNs and targets. Looked ok at first. It certainly works and does the job.
However, I quickly realized that in a virtual world if you have to manage dozens/hundreds of LUNs the targetcli interface can be quite cumbersome. Fabric for instance is referenced in the WWPN hexadecimal format without the ability to assign nicer more meaningful names. Com'on really, I always have to refer to the hexadecimal WWPN?
I've read about the likes of Nexenta, FreeNAS/TruNas, Openfiler but they all seem to be lacking one thing or another. I want to stay open source and would rather go with Ubuntu server for my SAN OS.
I believe Redhat has a Storage server, what do they use?
Is there something better than targetcli?
