Okay so some upgrade happened and now Akonadi wont work saying it cant connect to the sql server. I have tried some solutions on the internet and nothing seems to work. Is there a single command that can be used to purge everything related to akonadi and mysql and reinstall it all again? otherwise I am going to have to reinstall my whole system because I have wasted over an hour on this.
Are you referring to the rebuild of akonadi-1.13.0 that took place in Slackware-current-64 on Friday April 12th? I had the same problem; reverting to the version from directly before that fixed it. I've got that version, if you'd like to have it me know and I can email it to you or make it available for download from my website. Otherwise just recompiling from source might fix it, but I did not try that.
EDIT: Oops sorry I didn't notice your distribution in your profile. Akonadi 1.13.0 has been the stable release since 2015, what sort of upgrade did you make?

Reason: didn't notice OP's distro
Oh sorry I am running Kubuntu 18.04 now I need to update my profile lol. Yes it was at least recently Im not sure when. i just realized that in the mornings new emails load in, but throughout the day they dont.
I installed Akonadi Console and when it starts it gives the error: "ailed to connect to database: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) QMYSQL: Unable to connect"
I have already deleted my akonadi folder in /home, and in console, it shows my google contacts as unable to start. I also removed my email accounts and tried adding my main one back and it is just showing "retrieving folders (0%)"
When I tried restarting the akonadi server, I got mysql error. I enclosed a screenshot if it helps....

So wait, you're running 18.04 *not* 18.10, which was just released a few days ago? If you've got automatic updates enabled could it have installed 18.10 without notifying you? Sorry, not a kubuntu user so I'm operating from a low informational level here...
