ADSL in Linux? Does all equipment work?

Which modem should I buy / shouldn't buy.

Any modem that connects to an existing ethernet adapter should have no problems working, just as long as your ethernet adapter is compatible, which most are nowadays.

To expand on TrickyKid's post, the reason that the modem doesn't really matter is because it's not connecting directly to the OS. Even if you didn't have a router in the middle, it's still connecting to the NIC first, which translates all the data for the OS. So, if your OS supports your NIC, you're golden.

I see I shouldn't worry as much as about what phone modem to buy for Linux.
