Adding a USB 802.11b Driver to the Kernel

Hello,
I am sorta new to linux, but can easily navigate my way around Mandrake 9.0 or red hat.

My current network card is a Linksys WUSB11 ver 2.6 wireless USB ethernet card. It's going to be on a wireless network connecting to a Linksys BEF4SW11 4 port cable modem wifi router.

Currently there is no distribution that has a bootable CD where this card is properly identified and setup. Once I manage to get the right driver and install it, how do I add the driver module to a Linux Bootable CD ISO? I know how to decompress an ISO, but how in the hell do I add to the kernel? I have no idea how to recompile Linux so please be specific and don't assume I know anything (I'm new.)

I believe the chipset for my WUSB11 is an Atmel one--so there's a good place to look for drivers.

The reason I'm asking this is because I came across "Movix" a tiny linux multimedia distribution which meets ALL of my needs for a car mp3 player except for wireless networking (I want to be able to copy file to the linux box from my windows box wirelessly.)

One other thing, does anyone know of a program that I can use which will setup keyboard shortcuts for MPlayer & system commands, so that I can turn off the PC with the click of 1 button, and is compatible with MPLAYER?

Thanks so much!!

you will have to atleast compile the modules and probably the kernel you could also compile support directly to the kernel. If you go the modules root then you will need to figure out how to get the distro to load it.

It just requires that you have the kernel source installed and the kernel headers and gcc, no big deal, you just compile these against the kernel you have. You don't compile the kernel including them... or you can too, but that's actually harder to hack in. These are kinda clumpy, but I've gotten them to work before.

Cheers,
