Howdy,

On a RH9 box. When I try to launch Add/Remove Programs, the main window opens, then the "gathering system information" status window opens and begins, but then the whole process simply disappears. I'm at a loss as to what might be going on.

Filed under "it might be related", postfix has also stopped working. "postfix check" returns OK, but all other commands fail with a segmentation fault. I searched the archives here and found a message about the aliases file being corrupt somehow. I'm off to explore that issue a bit more now.

Any thoughts more than welcomed.

Redhat 9 is very outdated. I would recommend downloading a newer distro like Fedora Core which is based off of Redhat

Granted, however this is a production intranet webserver, and it's been running fine for 3+ years. And the versions of PHP and MySQL play well with RH9. It's all been very stable for years..

Anyone want to speculate that something really unfortunate is occurring??
