Accessing FAT partition from fedora


Hi

i have a dual boot laptop running FC1 and win xp on fat32
how can i access the contents of my fat partition thru linux

thanks

This is more a linux-general question then programming but something along the lines of
mkdir /mnt/windows
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows

of course you might have to change /dev/hda1 if that isn't partition, do something as root like

'less /etc/fstab'

to see what the other partitions are (possibly hdbx) but it will probably be hda1

You might also want to search for this, it probably has been asked before

it is hda1 ...also do i need to have root privelages to carry out the mounting ??

Yes, and you will have to be root to read it. There is a way to allow normal users to access the driver by adding 'user' under options in your /etc/fstab but you might want to look into that a bit more because /etc/fstab is a very sensitive file
