2 similar comp arch's and one kernel?

I use openmosix which uses single image system clustering, meaning that for the best compatability I need identical kernels throuought all the nodes on my cluster.

anyways I'm trying to compile one kernel that will work on both a second generation celeron, and an Athlon, both of which use the i686 arch. When selecting the architecture in the config of the kernel, it goes to 486 and then starts naming actual processor names. is there any way to compile a 'generic' 686 arch kernel that will work on both celerons and athlons?

That may be not possible.

I believe The Athlon and Celeron class are two different animals.
But you could always wait for another response.
