Hello, Any...
I feel it necessary to raise an issue in
this part of the forum, even though it is supposed to be raised in
another part of the forum. (At least, I think that is the case.)
See; Antix-16 linux has just been released. Recently I tried Antix-15 and found it to be "good". Why? Well, 15 has an olde driver matching my olde video card on my olde system - and it flies! So I installed Antix-16, and it too feels really "good".
The reason I want to talk about it HERE, and
specifically not in "Distros" section, is because I think it needs a fair suck of the sauce-bottle - and that's not necessarily a "flame" thing. The big-boy and curvy-girl Linuckes [word coined to mean "multiple linux"??] just "hang-out", not doing much, looking good, flexing muscles, doing fan-dances - and getting picked up just because they're "there". They don't have to do anything "hard", which leaves the others to languish until, finally, the skinny little things just "evapourate" into thin air.
Well; here's one reason why Antix is "good"... It does
NOT use
systemd.
Further, I believe
that is part of the reason why it is noticeably fast and light. At install (32-bit) I had a small glitch getting my very old SiS video card working - BUT - once I did - ZoooOOOOOOM!!!
[Antix is based on Debian "Jessie".]
Additionally, I make this note... Last night, while looking through Synaptic Pkg Mgr, I discovered two packages which are worthy of mention:-
Quote:
1. "prevent-systemd"
2. "systemd-must-die"

.
To be clear, I am a Pnewbie [Post-Newbie; silent "n"; copyright waived] so I have no real hard-core ties to distros, spins and flavours. One of my (failing) criteria with Linuckes is that I have to be able to use it/them at GUI-rather-than-CLI level. Recently, I have had to get my hands dirty on that rule while attempting get my olde SiS graphics card usable in several Linuckes, but I see that as a positive now. For me, Antix-16 is also noteworthy as one of the few Linuckes that has a "...SiS..." driver available to work with.
.
Finally, since I have
deliberately sought to make this post in (seemingly) the
wrong part of this (fantastic)
LinuxQuestions forum (as stated at the Section's link), I wish to report myself for "abuse of the rules". And whilst I apologize profusely for
that, I must also add that I am
not really being sincere - and that probably amounts to
further "abuse".
Indeed, since I have also broken
my own rule of "NOT working at CLI level", I have actually decided to ban
myself for a short period into future too. So, thank you Antix-16! [It was
sweeeet!!! E8>) ]
