I recently installed linux and am a complete noob at this so i was told that in order to play counter-strike on linux i need winex. However i visited transgaming .com and winex is accessible only by credit card...is it possible to find a version of winex for free?
Ok now i managed to download winex and installed it ok..transgaming folder and c_drive where created but when i try to run cs i get several errors such as:
a)MCI device for playback not installed use drivers in control panel to install it
b)I cant run cs with winex but only with wine because with inex simply it does not respond
c)i get a strange error tellin me that linux-socket not such directory etc
does anyone have an idea how i can get out of this mess?Thx a lot for help in advance
these messages show up for anybody who runs cs on wine. as for now wine is pretty much a joke on linux if you ask me. even at transgamings site youll only find 4 or 5 fairly recent games that work perfectly with wine.
anyway, if you want to know how to get the most of setting up a certain pice of software you can check out winehq.org. they have a section with an open discussion on how people have managed to get pices of software working.

This is completely untrue! Apart from the fact that it runs slightly slower, I have CS1.5 and Steam running flawlessly under the lastest WineX CVS. There are numerous guides to setting it up to.
Distribution: K/Ubuntu 18.04-14.04, Scientific Linux 6.3-6.4, Android-x86, Pretty much all distros at one point...

...
I also have to disagree. There are a great many games that work perfectly that are not "officially supported" and therefore come back with a "4" rating instead of a "5." Also, there are a number of games that are rated "3," "2," and "1" that work perfectly too. The problem is not what WineX is doing now... it's the rating system that they use is clunky. It doesn't respond to change very fast.
There are even some games that were working perfectly under previous versions that no longer work in the present version... But all in all, WineX is great for running windoze games. I run Jedi Academy faster than I could on a native windoze system.
I run photoshop when GIMP doesn't meet my needs... and a lot of games run.
Some neet a little bit of help (special settings, alpha software..)
Try checking out the transgaming website game list, their forums have a lot of information on getting things to run, the newest CVS all the time also helps a lot, things move quickly generally.
A lot of very good information on how to get popular games/programs to run. http://frankscorner.org
