Wine with NewWolf: OpenGL Wolfenstein 3D

I've been trying for a long time now to get this to work. I've had the same problem with every version of Wine since 20030115. The game starts and plays for a while, but then suddenly the whole system will lockup. The only way out is with the power switch. Prior to this there are lots of messages displayed in the terminal window regarding DSOUND. winecfg detects oss and I've tried with the oss, alsa and no sound drivers. Always the same thing. It happens on two different machines, both running Slackware 10.2.
A different opengl port, wolfgl, works fine but it's not as full-featured.

I'd like to not have to keep 20030115 installed just for this app. I have to keep the current version built in the source dir but not installed. It's a hassle to have to type the full path to the current version to use it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This is the classic Wolfenstein3D, not RTCW or Enemy Territory. I do have the linux point releases of those. Check out http://newwolf.sourceforge.net/wolfgl.htm
