Starcraft command help

"Then I also started opened an X display with a 16 bpp resolution to help even more, nicing it to -20"

I found this advice on the Wine FAQ about Starcraft. Unfortunately, my Starcraft is somewhat slow, and i'm looking for tips to improve the speed of the game.

How can I do this on the command line?

Better yet, can anybody give me advice on how to start Starcraft in 16 bpp or 15 bpp resolution every time? What file/files do I need to configure to achieve this?
