Question Starcraft Broodwar Slow in RHFC4

Thanks for taking the time to click this link and read this post.

So, I had an old PIII1GHz 256MB laptop laying around and decided to expand my Linux knowledge. I installed RedHat FC4, updated the kernel to 2.6.14.3 and installed Wine 0.9.2. I had no trouble installing Starcraft or the Broodwar addon. I read quite a few posts online about common install problems and some issues regarding the application not finding the CDROM but I was blessed and didn't have any trouble except with the software finding the cdrom which was quickly remedied with:
ln -s /media/cdrecorder .wine/dosdevices/d:
Worked like a charm.

The sound and video appears okay however its very slow, virtually unplayable. Could it be because I'm using a 1400x1050 resolution and my colors set to millions vs 640x480 and thousands of colors? (I even tried running it in a window and adjusting several video settings wtihin winecfg - no luck) Even despite setting my resolution to 640x480 that really didn't help. I also turned off the music, not that I listen to it anyway, hoping it would help but that didn't change much. According to a post by Phillipe, at http:[slash][slash]appdb[dot]winehq[dot]org[slash]appview[dot]php?versionId=149, he recompiled his kernel and got it to play just fine. Unfortunately he didn't provide any hints as to what he had to 'fine tune' or what the site was that gave him said information.

Has anyone else ever run into this problem? I have not ruled out the possibility of there being a hardware error (or maybe I don't have enough RAM...) however it ran fine in XP so I'm a bit confused.

Wine v0.9.2 & RHFC4 v2.6.14.3 - i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

With 1GHz CPU, slow is normal.
In linux, you must load wine the wine will load Starcraft, this process require strong PC.
To tell the truth, I am also a Starcraft's fan.
But I have never dream about run starcraft with wine, since my CPU is 600MHz.

With 1ghz Starcraft should scream. It just never seems to under a limited user. Try running as root & see how fast it is. For whatever reason, I have seen a huge jump in speed that way.

Glad to here that there is a way to run starcraft, I have tried Starcraft on CrossOver (I think it would be easier than wine)
But what I got is plenty of problem.
The install process went smoothly however CrossOver didn't create a starcraft shortcut for me though it 's done that task when I install
Instead, I had to broswed the crossover folder myself to see did it install my starcraft.
Then I used the wine version come with crossover to start it.
But:
I have a 800x600 screen resolution with 16-bit color depth.
I think it is low configuration
But when starcraft started, it was a 480x640 windows without border, on the top left of my screen.
Outside that window was 16-bit color, but inside it was 256 color but the color wasn't displayed properly.
It was green, where it should be blue, therefore, I got a terrible screen.
My mouse pointer dissaper when it is hold over that window
And needless to say, It was EXTREMELY SLOW, I ran it under normal as well as root, but there is no way to speed it up.
A feel of dissapointed quickly fill up my mind.
I made the last effort:
Set the screen to 480x640 resolution and 256 color.
Then I log out and login to see if there is anything changed.
There is only two things changed:
The window now fulfill my screen, my pointer had appeared, but the other thing don't change.

What to do next nick_th_fury?
