I had gotten a Myst Game for Windows 3.1. I would like to try running it in Mandriva Linux 2009.1. I would like to use wine for this task if it is possible. That was how I'd been running all Windows programs in Linux. However, since I'm sort of seeing that there might appear to be gaming alternatives, I'm open to sugestions for running it in Mandriva Linux.
Here's the story so far. I got the disk popped into the drive. Then I got it mounted. After mounting the CD drive, I ran the setup program. The setup program complained about the cursor.
What I ended up concluding is that the setup program will NOT run under wine in Mandriva Linux. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I guessed it's true, after fighting it.
I then popped the CD into the CD drive of a Windows XP Machine. I ran the installation program and it worked. Then I copied the Myst folder to the Linux machine. Then I uninstalled the program from the Windows XP Machine.
On the Linux machine, I then put the CD in, and mounted the CD. Then I tried to run the program using wine. It did NOT work. I used winecfg to set the setting to run as Windows 3.1 for that program. Then, I ran it and it complained that it needed 256 colors. So I found
Xephyr. I instructed that program to run the Myst game with wine via that program in 256 color mode. The program worked and did NOT complain about 256 colors. However, the program is crashing.
Does anybody know why? Does anybody know how to run this program? In Windows XP, it needs 256 color mode, 640x480 resolution, and run in Windows 3.1 mode. Thanks!
