Hi!
I've just purchased the Special Edition of Quake 4 and it comes also with Quake 2 and both expansions: Ground Zero and The Reckoning, I thought it could be nice to try it on Linux. While Quake2 runs perfectly by using the Linux binary from Ubuntu repositories, I've had problems with both expansions:
quake2 +set game rogue << Starts Ground Zero
Runs perfectly. The problem is that some items on the map are not working. For example, right at the beginning of stage one, there's a switch that you've to press to call an elevator. The problem is... well... there's no elevator
. The only way to finish the map is by using the NOCLIP cheat and "flying" instead of using the elevator.
quake2 +set game xatrix << Starts The Reckoning.
Game starts fine. Trying to skip the Xatrix logo when starting a new game can crash. This is passible though. The real problem is in the game. Just like Ground Zero, there is something missing. I blast through the beginning of the first mission and there are no enemies. I mean it... all models/enemies are not there. You can just move forward and finish the level... I guess, this will make the game a bit too easy won't it?
Does anyone else had problems with Quake2 expansions in Linux? I know Quake2 runs perfectly fine with Wine, so maybe I should use Wine to play the expansions as well? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
