packages toenable sound in ET

I have a problem enabling sound in enemy territory. The method I usually use the resolve the sound issues everybody encounters with enemy territory i bypass by using

echo “et.x86 0 0 direct” > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss

as root before I play the game, now for all the installs I have done, this works, however I have just done an isntll of debian from just the base system and built it up from there, i added alsa-base and the alsa oss wrapper. However I do not know what else I am missing in order to enable sound. The above line has worked in the past on debian installs as well as all other distributions. Any idea what package I need?

Michael.
