Installation problems

Hey,
been trying to install wow for a few hours now. I've tried all kinds of websites and how-tos, unfortunately the error i'm encountering isn't covered properly anywhere.

I have tried it a few different ways. One of which was to copy everything from the disks into a folder on my desktop where i could run the install.exe file under wine.

Problem is, i can't seem to cd(change directory) to ~/desktop/wow/
I am relatively new to linux.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and the latest version of wine.
I've gotten various messages:
Module not found

and

err:menubuilder:WinMain unknown option -a

Any help would be awesome.

Hi gerber11,

Remember that Linux is 'case-sensitive'. That is probably why you can't change directory to the desktop. Don't worry, I still get caught out from time to time with this.

Try "cd ~/Desktop/wow" (I'm assuming "wow" is all lowercase).

Thank you, you were correct there.

My latest problem is that when i go into that directory and type "wine Installer.exe" it gives me this in response:

wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\Installer.exe": Module not found

i'm guessing it is trying to read installer.exe in system32? wierd.

Wine apparently can't find the file "Installer.exe" where you think it is. However, are you sure that it is "Installer.exe" or "installer.exe" ... you must be precise with Linux! :-)

I had an issue like this yesterday. I was using PlayOnLinux to install the original Half-Life game and it was giving me a very similar error message to the one you got. I checked the generated script that was running the installation and realized that the path was wrong. One line in it read originally:

cd "/home/rod/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/HalfLife1/drive_c/sierra/Half-Life/"

and I had to manually change it to:

cd "/home/rod/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/HalfLife1/drive_c/SIERRA/Half-Life/"

to match the actual case of the pathname. The installation ran normally after the change.
