I downloaded a RPM of XMAME-0.99 for AMD64, and converted it to a deb package for installation on my Ubuntu system. Everything seems to run fine, except that when I try to run a game, I get the following message:
Standard joystick interface initialization...
OSD: Warning: No joysticks found disabling joystick support
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? The gamepad is hooked up and it works -- it works with another emulator for example -- but for some reason it doesn't seem to be recognized here.
Maybe xmame is looking for your joypad at the wrong place or for the wrong type. Open up and edit you mamerc file, usually located at ~/.xmame/mamerc with your favorite editor. Look for a line similar to this:
### Input Related ###
joytype 1
joydevname /dev/input/js
analogstick 1
Make sure that joydevname line matches the correct place where you joypad device is. Some distros place it at /dev/js and other weird places... you can type "man xmame" for a list of joytypes as well, 1 usually works...
