i had the same problem i fixed by setting my video to : 1024 x 768 and bit depth to: 24bit color also works with 800 x 600 but it must ne 24 bits color depth to work (i Guess).
and that should do it ( i hope), oh yeah when it is up and running turn of the 'Specular' setting in the system options under the video sub catagory. (turning that off increased my FPS by 10 roughly)
