Question DirectX on Linux... with Wine? Keep in mind I'm a newbie :p

Hey, I'm having quite a bit of trouble here. I recently got a Linux laptop, it has Wine and PlayOnLinux installed, if that makes any sort of difference. I've been trying to install "The Sims 2: Life Stories" but it won't let me unless I install DirectX. When I try, a box comes up that says there was some kind of critical error or something, like Linux wouldn't allow access to the needed folder. (Note, I am totally guessing here) I have looked up billions of things, but everything I find doesn't make sense to me. I'm mostly trying to decode what I'm supposed to do in the instructions on this page: http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/...p?storyid=2334

This would make total sense for someone who knew how and where to copy those funky codes and do all of that "native" crap. I'm soooo confused!!! Can someone please explain to me what all of that is telling me to do? How am I supposed to "Rename" those files? I've found them and all, but there is no "Rename" option.

Is that page even the right thing to do for my situation?

You get what I'm getting to, right?

I'd LOVE to have Sims on this laptop, my mom's friend knows how to make a separate user that is Windows while my main.default is still Linux, but I'm afraid that I'd mess something up in the process...

I am a TOTAL newbie on Linux!!! I've figured out SOME of the basics, but apparently not enough to play my favorite game...

Sincerely confused, Annie

You may be out of luck with this game, according to the Wine database it's a non-starter:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=2633

Unfortunately Wine isn't guaranteed to work with all Windows games and applications.

Welcome to LQ!

B/c of the situation that you are having, I would take your mom's friends advice and let them make a big enough windows partition so that you are able to play games. I know many people that do that keep a dedicated partition just for gaming. If you need any help with anything, just ask. Also if you are afraid of something happening to your information, I would back up the information on an external hard-drive or any other source.

Good Luck!

It doesn't work on Cedega either. Looks as though a dedicated Windows partition is the way to go.
