Hey, i was wondering if anyone thinks its possible to use Pclinux, or Ubuntu live version and burn it with after install files of Counter strike 1.6 to a disk. And use it as an on the go Counter Strike Lan disk. So u can pop it into any computer and run CS. In my head there are a few problems with regestry, and extreme lag beacuse its running off the disk, and the fact that its basicly emulating the game.
But useing a non-steam client would make it a nice tool for lan partys, and schools. Anyone else think that this would work? Or that im out of my mind.
Actually I've heard(and tested) that Counter Strike(all variants) run at a 1:1 ratio to Windows, sometimes even faster on Linux, which makes me really wonder why Valve hasn't ported it to Linux yet(as a native build), and get an even higher userbase than before.
But basically you'd have to include wine and and make an extra folder in the live user's home directory, with all the wine stuff and Steam/CS already installed. Since Steam auto-updates itself, you wouldn't have to worry about remaking the disc, unless it breaks wine compatibility.

Well...CSS doesn't run close to 1:1 in linux. 1.6, however, does. Gentoo Games had that AA CD release a while back, I used that and it worked fine, so I would imagine 1.6 would work well. Source would too if your schools PC ran it. Source is playable in linux, but by no means perfect.
Gentoo had a live version?
The counter strike client i would be using would be the (Non-Steam Version) Requiring no connection to steam. But can only run on non steam servers, and as a LAN. IM new to linux so if anyone can point out any do's and donts i would really appreciate it. Such as regestrey. If i install is on a non live version and move the regestry and CS data +Wine to a live CD(Gentoo)i think it would work.
