Compiling OpenAL for UT2004 sounds terrible online
I'm attempting to optimise my UT2004 as much as possible under Kubuntu Edgy Eft and already have succeeded with compiling libSDL and optimising it (which increased my frame rate by an average of 20 (from 82 to 105 in testing)), but when it comes to compiling OpenAL, I've got a rather weird problem.
I can compile it and even optimise it with the same flags I used with libSDL (being -O3 -mmmx -msse -msse2 -m3dnow) and it works and sounds absolutely fine when I play in offline mode. HOWEVER, when it comes to playing online, there's a HORRIBLE constant cracking sound. Eventually, UT2004 crashes to the desktop - as I said, this does NOT happen in offline mode.
I've tried a non-optimised compilation and the optimised one, both are the same. The pre-compiled version that comes with Kubuntu Edgy Eft works flawlessly however, but I'd rather have everything I can optimise being run on the game since the ATI fglrx driver doesn't perform very well in certain areas within the game (mostly outdoors).
Any suggestions? If a mod wishes this is the wrong area, please move it.
