america's army - and overall linux yay

so i just downloaded and installed americas army on my
pIII600 with 384MB/ram (and an 8MB 3d card)

it loads.. but doesn't work well...
so i bought a GeForce MX 440 128..

first off.. i can't believe i even got it to load.. but it it did, seems like a pretty cool game (even tho i havent' done much in it)

but i just wanted to point out to 'gamer' people something...

Quote:
Q: What are the recommended system requirements for the Windows 2.2 version?
A: The recommended requirements for the game are:

3-D graphics card with 128 MB memory and support for hardware transformation and lighting
2.0 GHz processor or equivalent
English version of Windows(r) 98/ME/2000/XP Operating System
512 MB RAM

Q: What are the minimum system requirements for the Linux 2.1 Client?
A:

Pentium3 766 (or equivalent)

128MB RAM

glibc 2.1 or newer.

Hardware accelerated OpenGL drivers (Nvidia's and XiG's are known to work)
just found it interesting that the system requirements are about -half- those for windoze..

neato, huh?

Unfotunately, it is because linux still uses the old 2.1 version, while windows users 2.2.

The 2.2 version features a much more complex engine, and graphics that are of much much higher detail.

The Linux Version is current up to version 2.3 and was released right after the Windows version. For some reason the WWW admin has not updated the links on the download page for the Americasarmy.com site.

Check icculus.org for downloads

AA

I am running AA on FC 3
it runs great I have a Nvidia 256MB Fx 5400
Or something like that
However as soon as I got my Nvidia card running well enough to load the game my Creative labs sound blaster took a crap and no longer works.

Argh

Loving redhat other than that.

Just got rdesktop running today. I am a network admin and rdesktop allows me to do my job with out a windows box.

/cheer
