yet another cause of mount.nfs: Protocol not supported

Moin,

Just as a quick reminder for me, but maybe it also might help others.
Have a BLFS-8.3 system setup; mounting via nfs worked with no problems. Now i tried to get some smaller linux system by copying the necessary parts from the BLFS to the smaller systems rootfs.
Worked with the expected difficulties. Except mounting nfs - when trying to mount nfs share from server i just got this message:

mount.nfs: Protocol not supported

No matter, if version 2 or 3.
Also i wasn't sure, if nfs client needs rpcbind. And also rpcbind didnt start in my small system, but exited without error msg and without deleting its own pid file. No fun. Especially not, if using just busybox's mount worked ootb with no problems.

In the end it was just a missing /etc/netconfig file (which is needed for both mount.nfs and rpcbind). Also i know now, that rpcbind is not needed as nfs-client, if -o nolock is used during mount.

I post this here, because this usually doesn't happen on regular distributions, and therefore googeling this error message did not really help a lot.

Gruss
WK

Thanks for sharing! No doubt it'll be useful to several others down the line.
