I bet that's it. Thanks. This is from the frontpage of e2fsprogs site:

"This release contains a number of bug fixes and enhancements over the
previous releases. In particular if you wish to experiment with the
on-line resizing feature in the 2.6 kernels you should upgrade to this
version of e2fsprogs."

So apparently Redhat backported this to 1.35. That's one thing I don't
like about backporting: you can't count on the release number to
indicate the feature set.

I'll upgrade e2fsprogs to 1.37 , try to find what result it is,

hi,

this problem has been already discussed in this forum intitiated by some Students and even myself had the problem , i had used Fedora Core 3 as my host....the lfs mailing list people solved me the problem.....it is simple and not complex at all.......

you have Fedora Core 3 as ur host system and u would have dne "mkfs.ext3 <LFS partition>" ....now wait, just see what version of e2fsprogs does FC-3 use??.......it will be higher version than what is used in LFS and the one used by Fedora is stable and bug free.......

so when we install older version of fsck in LFS,it is not able to check becoz the file-system was created using a newer version.........

so just try to get latest version as given in the e2fsprogs site and install as given in the LFS buk, then update the /etc/fstab...........pingo!

with regards,
C.C.Chakkaradeep
