Partitioning Questions from a first time LFSer

Hi!

First of all, my apologies for an stupid questions I ask. I don't expect to be spoonfed and am ready to accept any constructive criticism.

I am creating my first time LFS using Debian as the host distro on a virtual machine. I have experience using Linux for around a year but I get very much stuck on the finer details.

So here's some questions I have.

I decided my partitioning scheme to be as follows.
root 10GB
home 5GB
swap using swap of host system

>>Is this ok? I mean to go on to BFS but would like to build a basic LFS first.
>>It is my understanding that root should be bootable because there's no seperate /boot. Is this correct?

Thank you very much.

That choice of partitioning looks reasonable, although I personally would not go for a separate /home.
Regarding the boot-flag, only one partition can have that flag, so I would leave that as it is. In general, Linux bootloaders do not care about that flag (although some hardware does, so totally removing that flag from all disks is not recommended).

Thank you so much for the quick reply .

So as I have a boot flag on my host Debian system, I will keep it as it is and not make the LFS root bootable. Am I correct?

So, it would be ok to just have only /root?

Exactly.

Yes, as long as you mean a /-partition, not to be confused with the /root-directory (the /home-directory of the root-user).

Thank You. I partitioned accordingly.

Would like to hear others opinions on this too.

Depending on what you want to do with your lfs system, it could be a little small... I just realized myself, when compiling libreoffice, that 15 gb for / (including /home) was not enough. It takes more space to compile everything from source than to install a pre-compiled distro.

I just want to use this as a learning LFS. I'll most probably re-build it after I get the hang of it.
