Well I finally bit the bullet and decided to have a go at LFS, it took a while but going 'by the book' at LFS was fairly painless, one minor thing with the book is that it seems very 32 bit centric, although major 64 bit possible problems/difficulties are mentioned the way it just sym links the lib and lib64 folders together does rather preclude the use of multi-lib where lib is for 32 bit library's and lib64 is for 64 bit library's, I would like to see the use of the --libdir switch in the various configure options, coming from slackware I can recomend the use of setting LIBDIRSUFFIX=64 for 64 bit and "" for 32 bit and then in the configure options just use --libdir=/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX} as a for instance, if this or somthing similar was used throughout the book it would help keep the lib folders organized.
Having said that everything went well and I have a bootable/minimal system, had a bit of trouble compiling the kernel so I cheated and used the one from slackware, I am trying again as I type!
I also built a script as I went so that hopefully I can recreate LFS from scratch a bit easier.
Now comes the hard bit deciding what to put in and what to leave out!

You mean LFS is now called Linux From Slackers?
Actually congratulations on getting a booting LFS - will you publish the build script?
