Did you read the next few paragraphs following the make -k check step? You can expect errors with gcc. Did you compare your errors with those located in the build/test logs? Are your errors vastly different from those in the build/test logs? If not, then keep going.

plz help me out.

another thing....Book says that test should not stop that is why we use -k switch but test doesn't finish,i guess.
It seems that commands are not found (autogen to name one).
- Did you check if RedHat Enterprise linux 5 meets all the host requirements?
- Did anything go wrong in chapters 4 and 5?
- If you stopped (rebooted) did you (re)enter the chrooted environment correctly and (re)setup the mounts etc?

You did not post the correct log file, it (the make test logfile) should reside here: ../gcc-4.4.1/contrib/test_summary (as stated in chapter 6.15).
I would suggest the following:
1) remove both the gcc tree and build dir (/sources/gcc-4.4.1 and /sources/gcc-build),
2) start from the top of 6.15.
This will make sure that you start with a clean gcc tree (nothing left from the previous, maybe multiple, attempts).
An do run make -k check, do not omit the -k.
After the check step is done, you can open the logfile (vi ../gcc-4.4.1/contrib/test_summary) and compare it to the links posted in chap 6.15 or pipe the output through grep -A7 Summ (grep -A7 Summ ../gcc-4.4.1/contrib/test_summary) and check that.

Let's see if you get this far first......
Hi
I started chapter 6 again from the beginning.
But i am facing the same error.
I run the make -k check.
And the test_summary is

# Originally by Alexandre Oliva <oliva@dcc.unicamp.br>
# This script is Free Software, and it can be copied, distributed and
# modified as defined in the GNU General Public License. A copy of
# its license can be downloaded from http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html
# This script processes *.{sum,log} files, producing a shell-script
# that sends e-mail to the appropriate lists and renames files to
# *.sent. It currently handles only gcc, but it should be quite easy
# to modify it to handle other packages and its mailing lists.
# The scripts assumes it is run in the root directory of the build
# tree, and it will include all .sum files it finds in the mail
# report.
# configure flags are extracted from ./config.status
# if the BOOT_CFLAGS environment variable is set, it will be included
# in the mail report too.
# The usage pattern of this script is as follows:
# test_summary | more # so as to observe what should be done
# test_summary | sh # so as to actually send e-mail and move log files
# It accepts a few command line arguments. For example:
if test x"$1" = "x-h"; then
cat <<_EOF
-o: re-reads logs that have been mailed already (.sum.sent)
-t: prevents logs from being renamed
-p: prepend specified file (or list of files: -p "a b") to the report
-i: append specified file (or list of files: -i "a b") to the report
-m: specify the e-mail address to send notes to. An appropriate default
should be selected from the log files.
-f: force reports to be mailed; if omitted, only reports that differ
from the sent.* version are sent.

It is probably me but if you did not solve the glibc issue (chap. 6.9), you cannot continue......
What is the point of trying to solve an issue with a package (gcc) that is done later (chap. 6.15), while there are still other issues?
Glibc and binutils (and gcc itself) are marked as critical packages, you have to make sure these are done correctly before continuing. Just about everything else you do later depends on these three in one way or another.
Try installing bison and flex on your host system and see if it works.
Thanks for your suggestion.
I tried to install these packages but it says that they are alraedy installed.
further, I have started building LFS from the begining 3rd time but i face the same problem..
after: make -k check
i tried : ../gcc-4.4.1/contrib/test_summary
to get the summary about test result, But it shows nothing att all.
