LFS 8.3 systemd - Chapter 7 necessity

Hi.

Currently messing with LFS 8.3 systemd. Went through all the book, configured GRUB (on host Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with grub-mkconfig/update-grub, verified cfg).

Now the system is just silent after selecting LFS grub option. No errors, no booting, nothing. Still able to boot back in Ubuntu.

I somewhat understand the reasons for such behaviour - i just skipped Chapter 7 almost completely (but created shells file).

I just really don't need all the network stuff, multi-language locales, correct time zones etc. I would be perfectly fine with default offline system.

So my question is about necessary steps in Chapter 7. What must be done in any case? I want bare minimum of work on configuration, keep as much defaults as possible.

And if Chapter 7 CAN be skipped, then i guess i've messed up the kernel.

In chapter 6 which you didn't skip, you created the system on the host kernel, IIRC. In 6.3 or 6.4 you do this fancy chroot into $LFS.

To boot into lfs, you'll basically all of the stuff in chapter 7. For every bit you are not bothered doing, it will cost you functionality. Even if you opt for no network, I would add /etc/hosts for 127.0.0.1 and localhost.

Some of the functionality is just bothersome, the rest is*essential.
