lfs 6.4 chroot fails

using stable lfs book version 6.4
in chapter 6, step 6.4
when typing in this step:

chroot "$LFS" /tools/bin/env -i \
HOME=/root TERM="$TERM" PS1='\u:\w\$ ' \
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/tools/bin \
/tools/bin/bash --login +h

it fails with the error something like

chroot: /tools/bin/env: file or folder not found

even though the executable file env is clearly found with a ls of /tools/bin

note that the proper /tools link and $LFS are defined

any ideas?

Is this with or without the live cd? Because I have finished LFS 6.4 with the live cd as my host and I had no problems, I have build it on 2 different machines without a hitch.

I am not a guru on linux, and actually is the first time i built LFS 6.4, but this is what i would check/do in your case:

- is the env executable?
- what happens when reinstalling Core-utils?
- maybe trying ldd on /bin/env shows something missing?
- try going some steps back and copy/paste the commands, maybe while installing you mistyped something...
- maybe you forgot to do the second pass of Core-utils?

hope any of those help you out.

In this post I believe this guy is having exactly your problem or is at least similar, and one of the answers was:

Try running ldd on /tools/bin/gcc while being in chroot and see what is missing.

I guess that you should check on that.
