LFS 6.4 Chapter 5.4. Binutils-2.18 - Pass 1

Host system BLFS6.3 kernel 2.6.22.5 on a $GB USB Stick

In the config.log file I get errors:

Code:
configure:3565: gcc -B/usr/bin/ -c -g -O2  conftest.c >&5
conftest.c:2: error: expected '=', ',', ';', 'asm' or '__attribute__' before 'me'
configure:3571: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:
| #ifndef __cplusplus
|   choke me
| #endif

and later on in the same config.log file:

Code:
configure:4017: g++ -c -g -O2  conftest.cc >&5
conftest.cc: In function 'int main()':
conftest.cc:13: error: 'exit' was not declared in this scope
configure:4023: $? = 1
configure: failed program was:
| /* confdefs.h.  */
|
| #define PACKAGE_NAME ""
| #define PACKAGE_TARNAME ""
| #define PACKAGE_VERSION ""
| #define PACKAGE_STRING ""
| #define PACKAGE_BUGREPORT ""
| /* end confdefs.h.  */
|
| int
| main ()
| {
| exit (42);
|   ;
|   return 0;
| }
However the

CC="gcc -B/usr/bin/" ../binutils-2.18/configure \
--prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror

finishes with

Code:
configure: exit 0
and the make comaands run okay. So are these errors anything to worry about?

Probably no issue for 'binutils' having just
a couple of c++ files ( and for test only ).

You may have a corrupt g++ and c++ in /usr/bin/,
but then again, wouldn't be used for building LFS ?
....

Thanks for the info. I seem to be getting these errors in all the sections in chapter 5. Having done a bit more research it doesn't seem to be a big problem as the configure script apparently tests a lot of things on a system not all of which will be present.

All the configure scripts and make commands have run successfully and I am now on chapter 6.
