gnome does not find all its icons
Hello all,
I compiled an LFS using the development version book. I then proceeded to BLFS, built the X-Server and gnome.
Everything is fine except that gnome doesn't find all the icons, but instead just displays icons found in /usr/share/icons/hicolor. Icons from other directories, especially /usr/share/icons/gnome are missing.
This leads to a gnome environment having almost only generic icons (icon with a sheet of paper containing a red cross etc.).
After having already tried all sorts of things, I finally copied the gnome icons into the hicolor folder which worked but of course is not really a proper solution.
Does anybody know what could be wrong? This seems to be a configuration issue to me, like the icon path missing in some configuration file.
There also seems to be a problem with the gnome-themes, if I start the control center and navigate to the theme-selector, a window shortly pops up but is instantly closed again. Probably the themes are not being found as well.
Something about my configuration: in the first run I used the original BLFS development book and installed gnome-2.18. There I ran into the same effect which was solved by reinstalling/updating the shared-mime-info package.
I removed that system, recompiled everything, switching the packages to gnome-2.22 (and a more up-to-date version of gtk+). Now I have this effect again, this time probably not because of shared-mime-info, but caused by wrong search paths or something like that. Everything else seems to work correctly.
Thanks for any advice.
