Getting Started

I have a few questions before I get started. The first question: Is there any distro that is best to start with? Also, I have a problem. I have dial-up and if I start downloading large files I get booted off. Some of the packages for LFS are too large for me download, such as: Binutils, GCC, GCC-core, Gettext, Glibc, Linux, and Perl. Is there any other way for me to get these packages?

"Is there any other way for me to get these packages?" --- of cause yes, you can either get a printed LFS (http://lfs.osuosl.org/lfs/hardcopy60.html) or have a friend who has high speed internet download all the packages for you
