Hi Friends,
Thought I had it figgered out but it didn't show up in folder.
It seemed to make and install ok without chroot, but I guess
I was being fooled.I have reinstalled py a couple of times to
no avail. Below is the last of the terminal when trying with chroot
File "/sources/firefox-48.0.2/python/mozbuild/mozbuild/virtualenv.py", line 200, in create
'Failed to create virtualenv: %s' % self.virtualenv_root)
Exception: Failed to create virtualenv: /sources/firefox-48.0.2/firefox-build-dir/_virtualenv
Any ideas or help greatly appreciated. Midori works ok but I hate to lose
a battle. I can't understand why it installed so easily and Firefox doesn't.
Enjoy your weekend
Captian
As it was mentioned in other post I to install FF as a binary in /opt. Much easier.
Ok did you edit the config file for FF with the deps or nodeps as needed?
and did you build FF out of in chroot? there is a note if installing in chroot SHELL=/bin/sh.
If you want the easy option "binary", download latest FF tarball, untar in /opt.
ln -sfv /opt/firefox/firefox /usr/bin/firefox. You can also create a .desktop file for FF as well.
Hey Spikey,
I tried it same as Midori and it never went to that folder or showed up on desktop. I will try your suggestion and commands.
I have learned a lot but still lack in many areas. Two years ago I didn't even know what Linux was . This has been
a lot fo fun and learning with many redo's here an there. But don't give up eh?
Thanks for the advise
Captian
Put it in /opt. Untar it there, cd into /opt/firefox run in a terminal
Code:
./firefox
if all ok FF will open up. You can then create the symlink above and a .desktop file "to make launching FF easier". FYI The above way there is no building/compiling FF.It will just run.
If doing the above methord below is not required.
Quote:
make sure you have $SHELL environment variable set or prepend SHELL=/bin/sh.
Thanks Spiky,
I messed up something I guess somewhere back up the line. I will take a few day away from it since I been spending the last two weeks
messing with it.A break might do me good. Thanks fer all the help and advice to you all.
I'll be back,
Captian
