debian sarge + lfs + blfs good idea?

Hi there,

me and my team want to build a new linux distro using the lfs and the blfs books
now i decided to use debian sarge as host operating system what do u think about debian sarge + lfs and blfs ? is it a good idea? or do u suggest us to use another linux distro as host?

and what about the native lfs distro?
for a better compiling do you suggest us to use it directly as host system?

thanks anticipatively for help

I found that mepis did a good job, thats what I used to get my lfs system going. I didnt have very good luck with sarge, not sure why.

Slackware based is good. I used Zenwalk (which is Slackware based) to get my LFS running.

Sarge is a good choice as a host, as is Slackware. A general rule is to stay away from distros that overly customise the fundamental build tools or the kernel, you can end up with inconspicuous errors that might go unnoticed until the very end of the build.
