i wanna create my own custom linux distro

When you say custom distro, do you mean customise an existing distro or use, say, LFS to create yourself a small base and add the packages you need?

I think the second option is marginally easier than the first, but both are quite difficult for a newbie.

No, seriously, have you looked at the LFS and BLFS pages at all?
