chown: cannot access `/sources'

Hi folks.

I continued on
http://www.sg.linuxfromscratch.org/l...ddinguser.html

$ su -
Password:
# groupadd lfs (must be "su -")

# useradd -s /bin/bash -g lfs -m -k /dev/null lfs
# passwd lfs
Changing password for user lfs.
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated
successfully.
# chown lfs $LFS/tools

All went through without problem

# chown lfs $LFS/sources
Code:
chown: cannot access `/sources': No such file or
directory
I'm held here again. Please advise?

TIA

Well, it would seem either your $LFS isn't assigned correctly, such that there isn't a ./sources below it, or there just isn't a ./sources directory in the filesystem.

Hi itsjustme,

Tks for your advice.

I found out its cause because I have run 'su -' making $LFS variable lost.

After re-ran
# export LFS=/mnt/lfs

I can continue to run
# chown lfs $LFS/sources

Thumbs up

Good catch!

Q: Why do Linux programmers have flat heads?
A: (Slap!) Doh!

And it happens to all of us, no matter how "experienced," much more often than we might care to admit!
