Question Can u backup entire LFS in such way ??

Is it possible to backup an entire LFS partition ?

Is the following procedure possible ?

Get the backup:
--------------------
1. boot to the LFS partition and tar the whole tree / .
Are the file permissions and links are going to be saved too?

2. copy the tar file to another partition.
(THIS STEP IS DONE BEFORE & WORKS)

Restore:
-----------
1. Insert a CDROM or slackware boot CD and boot and then
mount the LFS partiotion
format LFS partition (THIS STEP IS DONE BEFORE & WORKS)

2.then untar the backup file.

Is this backup gonna work ?

2. Boot again with the slackware CDROM and boot to the LFS system and recover the lilo, and then reboot and boot using the lilo manager. (THIS STEP IS DONE BEFORE & WORKS)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

thanks 4 any help . . . . .

Yes that method should work just fine.

You may want to search through the LFS mailinglists for more information if you need it. A lot of people have done it that way and I haven't heard any "this doesn't work" kind of messages.
