Binutils 2.7 Unpacking Problem


Well... Right now ive tried everything to unpack binutils 2.17

I have alreayd try this command line


cd $LFS/sources
tar -xvf binutils-2.17.tar.bz2 << Here is where i get the problem
it says

tar: binutils-2.17.tar.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors


cd binutils binutils-2.17
mkdir -v ../binutils-build
cd ../binutils-build
CC="gcc -B/usr/bin/" ../binutils-2.17/configure \
--prefix=/tools --disable-nls --disable-werror


Please Help ive been here in Chapter 5 for like 2 weeks

The obvious question is did you download binutils-2.17? What is the result of ls $LFS/sources/binutils*?

Have you downloaded all of the required packages and put them in that directory (see chapter 3.2)? IIRC, if you're using the live cd it will contain everything you need.

Use the correct command to untar binutils-2.17.tar.bz2

tar -jxvf binutils-2.17.tar.bz2
OR
bunzip2 binutils-2.17.tar.bz2
tar -xvf binutils-2.17.tar

Adjust the path to the directory where the file is located.
You need to become familiar with how to use the commands to find the file.

There's nothing wrong with his tar command as long as his host system tar meets the minimum requirements of LFS.

Im using the Live Cd so it has every pack in it.
The problem is that it keeps mention that i do not have permission

Did you copy the packages from the LiveCD (lfs-sources directory I think) to $LFS/sources?
