update folders

Hi,

In my RHEL5 box, I see three folders under /var/cache/yum directory.

Code:
rhel-i386-server-5
rhel-i386-server-vt-5
rhn-tools-rhel-i386-server-5
One of them is used to store packages while running yum update. But when are other two used ?

They're all for the same purpose but for different entitlements from RedHat Network (RHN). If they're empty you likely haven't used them or haven't set them up at RHN. If you login to RHN and check your servers you'll see the base entitlements they're using and also see extended groups they can use. By default those groups aren't enabled but can be enabled at RHN.
