Reliaty backup oddity

I use a tape backup machine in combination with Reliaty to do my weekly backups. I have 4 drives abiotically managing 100 tapes.

It works as expected, it has its pros and cons and is a bit long in the tooth - however I have a single question about it.

It's more of an annoyance and something that just makes me go "Hmmm...". One specific slot will not accept a tape. Putting a tape in slot stops Reliaty from doing an inventory and having a tape present in that slot gives out an abundance of errors even simply pinging the drives.

I'm not sure there's a large subset of people using this software, so I'm just hoping someone out there has, and knows something about it.

Code:
Linux 2.4.9-e.37 #1 i686

hmmm. That is a bit old. Reliaty was acquired by Oracle in 2003. It appears to have become Oracle Secure Backup.

But, unless there is some weird hidden configuration option regarding which slot a cleaning tape should be in, and that bit of code has issues, this sounds more like a hardware problem. Maybe you want to be looking for people using similar hardware. I'm guessing your hardware is just as old as the software, so you're off warranty and probably off support as well. You may have to live with a bad slot.

Yeah, just living with it for now. Not super important to get it fixed - and you're right about the age of everything involved - so it was just an annoyance.

The cleaning slot might be something, I'll dig around in the code and see what I see.

Thankee...
