Need a compile server for old Redhat version

Hi all,

I have on old Redhat Enterprise server (2.6.9-55.EL) running an old version of apache. We no longer have the original 386 development environment.

Is there any way I can create a server (Non enterprise) to compile the apache against as I have a security patch to apply to apache? The current live server does not have a compiler for security reasons. I need this development server for the foreseeable future (more than 30 days) as the customer does not want to change the server it is on for the old application that runs on it.

Would it be possible to run a Fedora version with the same kernel and libraries to achieve this compile?

Hoping you can help Lenny

AFAIK kernel doesn't influence compling Apache, more like Glibc, compiler and like any dependent libs. If you want something that closely resembles your old RHEL env I'd suggest loading "RHEL-4 U4-like" CentOS 4.4 instead. You should have a basic env (less than 600 megs) up in no time and if you can't or don't want to set aside a dedicated machine for it you could use VMware and get the deps from the repo.
Having a Vmware image of CentOS-4.4 would make the party complete, innit?...
