McData McMadness!

I've got a redhat RHEL4 cluster going with GFS. I use a fibre channel network to access the storage.

Everything is fine, I can see the storage when using FC hubs, everything can be seen. The moment I plug everything into a McData ED-5000 fabric switch, gone, can't see anything on the network.

Obviously, there's something about fabric that I don't understand so wonder if someone on here might have some thoughts on things I could try, look for... fix? .

By the way, one storage device is behind a FC/SCSI device and the other is behind a Brocade switch.

It's everything connected thru fabric you can't see or detect or your actual network?

What type of fibre cards are you using? Is the McData switch properly zoned and configured? Do you get anytype of link or lights on the fibre switch or on the fibre cards on the servers as well? Are the licenses setup properly for the McData?

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Seems to be storage really. I mean, from the admin window, the nodes *seem* to be able to see each other but I'm not sure how I'd test that.

I'm now suspeceting licensing.
I'm using QLA2200 fabric aware cards with RHEL4. When I move the connections over to hubs, all can be seen, when back to the McData, nothing comes up. I don't see any screen for licensing on the McData?

I've set up a zoneset and zone on the McData, all of the QLA2200 cards connected do light up the LED's on each port. All of the QLA2200's are pretty much in default other than BIOS loading.

The storage is two parts.

One is a crossroads router attached to a SCSI storage device. That also shows up or lights the link light on the McData.

The other is Xyratex storage connected to a Brocade switch since the McData does not have serial inputs, only optical. That too lights up a link light after some mods on the Brocade box to work with the McData.

Rebooting, re-scanning, nothing shows any storage when on the McData, only on the hub's.

I'd have to suggest you may want to talk to McData support on this one. If you have link lights but they can't talk or see each other, there's most likely a problem if your zones are configured properly, etc.

To be honest, that's the last straw with this 200Lbs monster. I have a bunch of Brocade switches so will look around for info on how I can create one zone with a bunch of them.
