How to import Software RAID device in to RHEL 5 new install

I have a RHEL 5 installation with software raid implmented. My boot hard drive has gone bad and I need to replace it. After replacing the drive and re-installing RHEL 5 I want to import the previous sofware raid devices. I have data on them that I want to keep.

Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks

Is there more than one harddisk or you have implemented raid using mulltiple partitions on the same disk?

using rescue disk, find the problem with the harddisk

if yr boot loader is corrupted, install it using grub-install

The entire boot drive is bad. There are 10 drives in the software RAID. Since the boot drive is bad I need to replace it and install a new copy of RHEL 5.

From there how do I get the new install of RHEL 5 to recognize the software RAID? The software RAID is RAID 5.

Thanks

I think u have installed raid support by using the partitions of the same disc.

and also ur boot loader is corrupted.

boot rhel5 using rescue disc(first cd ) on the boot prompt, type
boot:linux rescue

after the rescue installation,
# chroot /mnt/sysimage
# grub-install /dev/hda
fdisk -l will list all mounted devices including raid

go to the directory of the device and confirm files are there.
You can create a new non raid partition and copy the contents of the raid device to it. Also you can remove the raid device if thereis one failed and create a new raid partition and add it.

The physical disk drive has failed. Therefore, I need to replace it with a new disk drive. After installing the new disk drive and installing a new copy of RHEL5 on the disk drive. I then want have access to the software RAID devices. I don't have a rescue disk. How can I get my new installation of RHEL 5 to recognize the software RAID devices from previous install?

Thanks
