how to get rshd running on an el5

Hello,

I am running linux 2.6.18-8.el5 and I am trying to get rshd running. Try going to /etc/xinetd.d but did not see rshd under this directory. Anybody got any idea on how I can get rshd running on this vmware ?

Thanks for the help !

P.S. Yes I know I should be using ssh instead of rsh. I am using rsh to reproduce an issue.

If you mean you didn't find a package to install it should be rsh-server. If you're looking for "rshd" see "/etc/xinetd.d/rsh". Since Xinetd comes compiled -libwrap please consider logging options like "log_on_success", "log_on_failure" and an IP / range restriction like "only_from" in addition to appropriate firewalling.

Hi unSpawn,

Thanks for your reply but I caught in catch 22 here. When I try to install rsh-server it complained about the dependency on xinetd. However, when I look at /etc/xinetd.d there is no directory rsh. Any idea on how to get out of this one ?

Thanks,
