Qt Embedded configure - qmake Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")

I am trying to configure Qt Embedded for an ARM3715 using the ti sdk. I have tried everything but I continue to get an error when running ./configure

"...
Creating qmake. Please wait...
make: Nothing to be done for `first'.
floatmath auto-detection... ()
/home/george/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.2/bin/qmake: 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
floatmath disabled.
mmx auto-detection... ()
/home/george/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.2/bin/qmake: 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")")
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
mmx disabled.
...

I have modified the qmake.conf inside "~/qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.2/mkspecs/qws/linux-arm-g++" to :

"
#
# qmake configuration for building with arm-linux-g++
#

include(../../common/linux.conf)
include(../../common/gcc-base-unix.conf)
include(../../common/g++-unix.conf)

load(qt_config)
"

my configure looks like
"./configure -embedded arm -opensource -confirm-license"

Any help will be greatly appreciated
