LCM1602 via ioctl /i2c documentation

This is strictly NOT Linux issue, but implementation of ioctl.

I am running in circles trying to find A SIMPLE documentation / spec on using / implementing LCM1602.

This is a simple I2C hardware to interface I2C to LCD.
All of the sample codes I have found so far are missing the point and fail to work with I2C via this interface hardware.
The "LCD libraries AKA Wire.h " codes are for working directly with the Hitachi LCD controllers instead.

This is as close as I got

Can anybody suggest something better?
