Kernel panic error

Hi all,

I am working on an ARM9 board . I tried setenv bootargs init=/linuxrc root=/dev/mtdblockx in the uboot and saveenv then bootm gave 'Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)' . i rebooted the board and tried setenv=bootargs=root=1f04 init=linuxrc noinitrd(this was the original parameters ;before i tried the above setenv)
but the error still persists . Also my board doesnt boot always . Could anyone tell me whether the above steps would damage the hardware/bootloader(uboot)?whether my experiment has resulted in the board not to boot?

i am new to this so someone please suggest me an answer .

Do you have a file system present on your flash? When you said /dev/mtdblockx what is the number for 'x' you have provided? Make sure you have flashed the file system onto the right address of the MTD location.

Also a better option will be to try NFS if your board has a Ethernet.

Best regards,
Suresh
